This 3ds Max course consists of seven sessions of two hours each. You will be attending a live two-hour session, and given homework before your next session. The entire duration of the course varies between 3-5 weeks.
Class 1 – Introduction to 3DS Max Interface, Units and Manipulating Objects
During this first two-hour class, you will learn the fundamentals of 3D workflow and be familiarised with the 3ds Max interface. You will start by learning about preferences, project configuration, units, Maxstart files, navigation tools and visual styles. The class will then progress onto working with viewports, modelling techniques, manipulation tools, snaps, and finally the parametric geometries and shapes.
Class 2 – Various Modelling Techniques in 3ds Max
Now that you are familiar with the basics of 3ds Max, you will learn how to work with basic geometry modifiers such as Bend, Twist, Taper, FFD, Noise, Lattice and Symmetry. You will also learn how to create parametric models during this session.
Class 3 – 2D and Low/High Poly Modelling in 3ds Max
This session will focus on some of the most important and useful modelling techniques in 3ds Max. You will learn how to create high and low poly models and edit poly modifiers. You will also learn modelling 2D shapes and the invaluable edge copying technique.
Class 4 – Preparing Models for Texturing and Material Editor Interface
Now that you are confident with modelling in 3ds Max, next you will learn how to get your models ready for texturing. This course will focus on topics such as scaling your model (reset Xform), Xview, texturing workflow, using material templates including arch & design and Autodesk materials. You will also learn how to apply a material to a model by using UVW maps and the unwrap UVW method.
Class 5 – Best Practices for Materials and Working with Cameras
This class teaches you the best practices when it comes to working with materials so you save time and effort. You will learn how to open, save, create and merge material libraries, as well as various texturing techniques. You will also learn all about cameras and views.
Class 6 – Adding a Sky to the Background and Creating a Daylight System
During this two-hour session, you will learn how to work with the Viewport Background, as well as the isolation mode and displaying the object properties. You will then learn how to create a daylight system in 3ds Max. This class will also teach you how to work with the Mentalray Renderer as well as the final gather.
Class 7 – Interior Lighting and Rendering for Print
The final class of this 3ds Max training course focuses on various lighting techniques for interiors.
